Exodus 14:13–14 (NIV) “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
There are moments in life when it feels like everything shifts against us at once. A difficult report, an unexpected bill, a painful conversation, or a season of pressure can make it feel like the tide has turned in the wrong direction. Israel experienced this exact moment in Exodus 14. Pharaoh’s army was behind them, the Red Sea was in front of them, and there seemed to be no way out.
Yet in that moment God told them to stand still. What looked like the end was actually the beginning of their breakthrough. Pressure was not proof that God had abandoned them; it was proof that they were standing on the edge of a miracle.
Throughout Scripture we see this pattern. David walked toward Goliath when everyone else was hiding. Jehoshaphat sent worshippers ahead of the army and praised before the battle was won. Eleazar stood his ground in the field when others retreated, and God brought a great victory. In each case, the tide turned not because the situation looked better, but because someone trusted God enough to stand firm.
Sometimes God turns the tide when His people refuse to run, refuse to stop praising, and refuse to let go of His Word. The storm does not control the tide—God does. And when the King moves, what once looked impossible can suddenly change direction.
Father, when pressure rises and circumstances feel overwhelming, help me to stand firm in faith. Remind me that You are still in control and that the tide belongs to You. Give me strength to keep praising, keep trusting, and keep holding onto Your Word even before I see the miracle. In Jesus’ name, amen.
When you feel pressure this week, pause and thank God out loud for His faithfulness. Choose praise before you see the breakthrough.
The tide belongs to the King. We will not fear, we will not retreat, and we will not flinch. We stand firm in faith, and we believe God is turning the tide.
