WEEKLY DEVOTION

DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE

Scripture

John 20:21 (ESV) “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’”

Devotional Thought

It’s easy to get comfortable in places we were only meant to pass through. What starts as a temporary season can slowly become a permanent space if we’re not careful. After the resurrection, the disciples found themselves gathered behind closed doors. It was a moment filled with fear, uncertainty, and yet also the presence of Jesus. But that room was never meant to be their residence—it was meant to be a launching place.

Jesus didn’t rise so they could stay. He rose so they could be sent. The same is true for us. We can have powerful encounters with God, moments where His presence feels real and life-changing. But those moments were never meant to be the finish line—they are the starting point.

Sometimes we drift into comfort without realizing it. We hold onto seasons, habits, or mindsets that once felt right but are no longer where God is moving. Like the Israelites following the cloud, our responsibility is not just to recognize where God is—but to move when He moves.

Comfort can be deceptive. It whispers, “Stay a little longer,” even when God is calling you forward. It convinces you that what feels good must be right. But you can’t follow a moving God with a settled mindset.

Even Peter experienced this. On the mountain, in a powerful moment with Jesus, his instinct was to stay and build something permanent. But that moment wasn’t meant to be preserved—it was meant to prepare him for what was next. And that’s the tension we all face: will we settle in what feels good, or will we step into what God is calling us to do? You weren’t saved just to stay—you were saved to be sent. There is more ahead, but it requires movement.

Reflection Questions

  1. Where in my life have I become too comfortable in a season God is calling me out of?
  2. Am I holding onto a past moment instead of stepping into a current mission?
  3. What is God prompting me to move away from or step into?
  4. Am I following where God is leading, or staying where it feels safe?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the moments where You meet me and reveal Yourself to me. Help me not to settle in places You’ve called me to move beyond. Give me the courage to follow You when it’s uncomfortable and the wisdom to recognize when You are leading me forward. I don’t want to stay where You once were—I want to walk where You are going. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action Step

Identify one area where you’ve grown comfortable but sense God is calling you forward. Take a practical step this week—whether it’s a decision, a conversation, or an act of obedience—to move in that direction.

Family Declaration

We declare that we will not settle in comfort but will move in obedience. We are not just saved—we are sent. We will follow God wherever He leads, even when it stretches us. Our lives will reflect purpose, movement, and faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
