"But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."
Luke 14:13-14 (ESV)
When honouring people, we should always be careful to do it with the correct motive. At times, it can be easier to honour people with position and influence. Although our motives for this could be pure, it is possible at times to do this to get something in return from them. Honour with an agenda is not honour at all. We should seek to honour people with no expectation of getting anything back from them. This is why Jesus challenges us to bless people who cannot repay us. The promise is that if we bless those who cannot repay us, God will reward us!
Declaration prayer: Lord, we pray that you would help us keep our motives pure when we honour people. Help us to honour even those who cannot pay us back. Help us to see the value of the people around us, people created in your glorious image and filled with your Spirit. In Jesus' name, amen.
