WEEKLY DEVOTION

Scripture:

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (ESV) “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Devotional Thought:

A tree can only grow as strong as its roots. When the heat comes, when the storm comes, and when life becomes difficult, what is happening underneath determines what we see above. The same is true in our lives. Being rooted in God doesn't mean that we will never face difficult circumstances. It means that our relationship with God gives us a source that keeps us standing when circumstances change.

Being rooted also doesn't mean being stuck. Healthy roots support growth. We can honour where we have come from without allowing our past to determine where we are going. But being planted isn't enough. We need to be planted in the right place. What we listen to, who we surround ourselves with, and what we allow to shape our thinking all influence our growth.

And God doesn't want us to simply grow for ourselves. A tree produces fruit that others can enjoy. In the same way, our faith, patience, generosity, prayers, and faithfulness can become a blessing to someone else. Someone else's obedience may have become our shade. Now we have the opportunity to grow something that someone else can stand under.

Reflection Questions:

1. What are you currently rooted in—God, or the things around you?
2. What influences or relationships are helping you grow spiritually?
3. What kind of “fruit” are you producing that could bless someone else?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to stay deeply rooted in You. When life gets difficult, help me remain strong because my trust is in You. Help me to grow in the right environment and produce good fruit that will bless the people around me. May my life point others to Jesus and leave a legacy that continues beyond me. Amen.

Action Step:

Choose one thing this week that will help you become more rooted in God—spend extra time in His Word, pray intentionally, join a small group, or encourage someone in their faith. Then look for one opportunity to bless someone else with what God is growing in you.

Family Declaration:

Today we declare that we are rooted in Christ. Our roots will be stronger than our circumstances. Our faith will be stronger than our fears. We will keep growing, keep producing good fruit, and keep pointing people to Jesus. What God grows in us will become a blessing to those coming after us. We will grow something that others can stand under. In Jesus' name, Amen.
