“Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.” 1 Peter 2:17 (NKJV)
This past Sunday, Dr. Stafford Petersen brought a weighty and timely word: Honor still matters to God.
In a world that celebrates dishonor — where mocking, criticizing, and tearing others down has become normal — Scripture calls us higher. “Honor all people,” not just the ones we agree with or the ones who meet our expectations. Honor is not earned; it’s given. Dishonor, on the other hand, is dangerous.
📖 In Numbers 12, when Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, thinking their words were private, God heard it. Their dishonor wasn’t overlooked. Miriam was struck with leprosy — not because of disagreement, but because of dishonor.
📖 In Genesis 9, Noah’s son Ham exposed his father’s weakness. But Shem and Japheth covered him — not to hide sin, but to walk in honor. The result? One was cursed, and two were blessed. Honor covers. Dishonor exposes.
📖 Romans 12:10 reminds us: “Outdo one another in showing honor.” That means honor should be loud, visible, and intentional.
Have you allowed a culture of criticism to influence your heart? Have your words reflected honor or dishonor — especially toward those God has placed in your life?
Remember: Honor isn't about perfection. It's about posture. And God’s eyes are on those who walk in it.
Father God, forgive me for where I’ve walked in dishonor. Teach me to speak, serve, and think with honor — not because others are perfect, but because You are holy. I want to be someone You can trust with influence, authority, and blessing. Help me to outdo others in showing honor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
