Matthew 27:50–51 (NIV) “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split.”
Have you ever stood in a moment where everything felt stable… until suddenly it wasn’t? That’s what Good Friday felt like for the disciples. Just days earlier, there was celebration and shouting. Now there was darkness, confusion, and the cross. It looked like everything was falling apart. But in reality, everything was falling into place.
Good Friday reminds us that what looks like weakness can actually be power in plain sight. Jesus wasn’t a victim on the cross—He was in control. When He said, “It is finished,” He wasn’t declaring defeat, but completion. The work of redemption was done. While the world saw suffering, heaven was accomplishing salvation. Sin was being dealt with, grace was being released, and a way back to God was being made.
The darkness over the land wasn’t random—it was creation responding to what was happening. Jesus, who had no sin, became sin for us so that we could become righteous before God. The weight of the cross shows both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God’s love.
And then, the ground shook. The veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom, not by human hands, but by God Himself. What once separated people from God was removed in an instant. Access was granted. No more distance, no more striving—just relationship.
Good Friday is a reminder that God often does His deepest work in moments that feel the darkest. What looks like an ending may actually be the beginning of something eternal. The question is not just what happened then—but what is happening in us now. Has the ground shifted in your heart?
Lord, thank You for the cross and for the finished work of Jesus. Thank You that what looked like defeat was actually victory. Help me to trust You in moments when life feels uncertain or shaken. Thank You that I now have access to You, not because of what I’ve done, but because of what Jesus has done. Let this truth transform my heart and draw me closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Take time today to reflect on the cross. Read through the Good Friday account slowly and thank Jesus for what He has done. Don’t rush the moment—pause and allow the truth of it to settle in your heart.
We declare that Jesus has finished the work on the cross. We are forgiven, restored, and have full access to God. We will not live in fear or distance, but in confidence and grace. Even when life feels shaken, we trust that God is working all things for His purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
