WEEKLY DEVOTION

WHO TOLD YOU THAT?

Scripture:

2 Samuel 9:11 (NIV) “So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.”

Devotional Thought:

Mephibosheth had every reason to feel forgotten, rejected, and disqualified. His past had shaped the way he saw himself. Even after David welcomed him and restored what had been lost, Mephibosheth still called himself a “dead dog.” But David never called him that.

The King had given him a new position, a new future, and a place at the table. His condition hadn't changed, but his identity had. Grace didn't erase his history; it redefined his future.

Sometimes we can be sitting at God's table while still listening to the voices of our past. Shame says, “You don't belong.” Failure says, “You'll never change.” Fear says, “You're not enough.” But God says something different: “Sit down. You belong here.”

The closer Mephibosheth came to the table, the less room there was for the lie. In the same way, the more we spend time in God's Word, prayer, worship, and His presence, the louder God's truth becomes and the quieter the lies become.

So ask yourself today: Who told you that? If God didn't give you the label, you don't have to live under it.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What lie about yourself have you been believing?
  2. What does God say about who you are?
  3. How can you spend more time “at the table” with God this week?

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You have given me a place at Your table. Help me to stop listening to the lies of shame, fear, and my past. Remind me that I am remembered, loved, and welcomed by You. Let Your voice be louder than every voice that tells me I am not enough. Help me to keep coming back to Your presence and to see myself the way You see me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Action Step:

Write down one negative label or lie you've been believing about yourself. Then write beside it what God's Word says about you. Read that truth every morning this week and choose to believe God's voice over the voice of your past.

Family Declaration:

Today we declare: We are remembered. We are loved. We belong at the King's table. Our past does not define us, our failures do not disqualify us, and shame does not have the final word. We will listen to God's voice above every lie and walk in the identity He has given us. We belong to Jesus, and we will stay at the table. Amen.
