2 Kings 5:13–14 (NIV) “Naaman’s servants went to him and said, ‘My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, “Wash and be cleansed!”’ So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.”
We all love the idea of breakthrough, but not always the process that leads to it. Naaman wanted a powerful moment, something dramatic and impressive, but God gave him a simple instruction: go wash. The tension in the story isn’t about the river, it’s about obedience. His miracle was waiting on the other side of a step he didn’t feel like taking.
How often do we do the same? We look for deep, big, spiritual moments, while God is asking for simple obedience—have the conversation, forgive the person, take the step, surrender the habit. The danger is that we can miss what God is doing because it doesn’t look the way we expected.
Naaman almost walked away from his healing, not because God didn’t speak, but because he didn’t like how God spoke. But when he humbled himself and followed through—every step, every dip—his life changed.
The power was never in the water. The power was in the obedience.
Lord, thank You that You speak clearly, even when it’s simple. Help me not to overlook or resist Your instruction just because it doesn’t match my expectations. Give me a humble heart that is quick to obey, even in the small things. Teach me to trust that every step You ask me to take has purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Identify one specific step you’ve been delaying—whether it’s forgiveness, obedience, discipline, or surrender—and take action on it today. Don’t overthink it, don’t delay it. Just move.
As for me and my house, we will not skip the steps God has given us. We choose obedience over preference, humility over pride, and faith over feelings. We believe that every step matters, and we walk confidently knowing that our breakthrough is on the other side of obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
