SERMON NOTES

Unlocked: Part 1

Unlocked: The Power of the Holy Spirit

We’re beginning a new series called UNLOCKED—and it’s more than just a title. It’s a prophetic declaration over your life. For too long, many have lived restricted—locked in fear, caught in cycles, stuck in comparison, or confined to a smaller version of who God created them to be. But Jesus didn’t die and rise again simply to save us and leave us stuck. He promised us the Holy Spirit—our Helper—who comes not only to comfort, but to unlock.

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” — 2 Corinthians 3:17

Freedom means open doors, broken chains, and shattered locks. This series is about allowing the Holy Spirit to unlock everything that has been stuck, hidden, dormant, or undeveloped in your life.

The In-Between

We all go through seasons of waiting—those moments between a promise and its fulfillment, between loss and restoration, or between a word from God and the power to walk it out. The disciples experienced this too. After Jesus rose from the dead, He spent 40 days with them. Then He ascended to heaven—and they were left in the "in-between." They had a promise from Jesus but hadn’t yet received its power.

“And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father... For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” —Acts 1:4–5 (ESV)

Jesus gave them the key—but the door hadn’t opened yet. They were in a waiting season between Ascension and Pentecost.

Before God Unlocks Power, He Unlocks People

After Jesus ascended, the disciples returned to Jerusalem in obedience to His command.

“Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet...” —Acts 1:12 (ESV)

This act of obedience aligned them with Heaven’s plan. They didn’t rush ahead. They waited, just as Jesus instructed.

“Stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” —Luke 24:49 (ESV)

Obedience is what unlocks alignment. It’s easy to feel abandoned or anxious in seasons of waiting. We might be tempted to act on our own agenda. But divine unlocking requires us to stay in the place God has assigned.

So ask yourself: Where has God told you to stay, serve, or stand still? Obedience doesn’t mean inactivity. In fact, waiting seasons are still working seasons.

“They all met together and were constantly united in prayer...” —Acts 1:14 (NLT)

Prayer Unlocks Preparation

While waiting, the disciples prayed. They weren’t passive—they were proactive. They worshiped together and unified their hearts.

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength…” —Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

Prayer tills the soil of our hearts for the seeds of the Spirit. It prepares the ground for God's move. The upper room became a preparation room—not just for an encounter, but for empowerment. So don’t waste your wait. Let your “upper room” become a war room. Let the Spirit shape you in the silence.

Unity Unlocks Power

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.” —Acts 2:1 (NIV)

The Holy Spirit fell after they had united. Unity was the environment for the outpouring.

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity… For there the Lord bestows His blessing…” —Psalm 133:1–3 (NIV)

They didn’t just share a space. They shared a spirit of expectation. Unity created the atmosphere for the Spirit to move. Division delays destiny. But unity unlocks the power of God.

You Are Not Stuck—You Are Staged

Maybe you're in your own in-between—between a promise and its fulfillment, a prayer and its answer. If so, take heart:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” —Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

You are not forgotten. You are being formed. You are being aligned, prepared, and unified. This waiting season is not punishment—it’s positioning. The time between Ascension and Pentecost wasn’t about delay. It was a divine setup—a time where God unlocked His people to step into purpose.

  • Unlocked by obedience
  • Unlocked through prayer
  • Unlocked in unity

The Source of Unlocking: The Cross

None of this is possible without Jesus. Before the upper room of power, there was an upper room of sacrifice. Before the Spirit was poured out, the blood was poured out. Jesus didn’t just break bread as tradition—He did it as declaration.

“This is my body given for you… This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

—Luke 22:19–20 (NIV)

Communion is more than remembering Jesus’ suffering. It’s a reconnection to the source of our power. It’s a declaration that everything unlocked in us today flows from what Jesus did on the cross.

So as you take the bread and the cup, remember:

  • His body was broken so you could be made whole.
  • His blood was shed so you could be filled.
  • His life was given so you could be unlocked.

If you’ve placed your trust in Jesus, you’re welcome at His table—not because you’re perfect, but because He is. And if you haven’t said “yes” to Him yet, now is the moment.

A simple prayer:

Jesus, thank You for loving me and forgiving me. I say yes to You today. I trust You with my life. Be my Lord and my Savior. Amen.
